Boaters needed to help veterans with Fishing for Freedom

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - Preparations are underway to honor wounded warriors and veterans during a popular Tri-State event.

Fishing for Freedom registrations have been open for two weeks, and already more than 100 vets have signed up.

Organizers say it's a great way to give recently deployed soldiers or vets recovering from wounds a relaxing, and unforgettable, weekend.
Chairman Glenn Sanders says the event is about more than just fishing.

"The soldiers just love it," Sanders said. "First off, a lot of them have told us that they come back to their hometowns after deployment and nobody really says thanks. And the Quincy people, the Tri-State people, really make these soldiers feel at home when they come here to Quincy."

This year's event is the weekend of June 6, 7 & 8.
More boaters are needed to make the event a success, if you can provide a boat, you're asked to sign up at
