FORT MADISON, Ia. (WGEM) -
Fort Madison city officials are taking a closer look at a major road in town to see how they can make it safer and easier for drivers to get around.
City Manager Byron Smith says an engineering study has been approved to analyze things like traffic signal placement, intersections and pavement conditions along the 61 corridor that runs through town.
Smith says they plan to take the recommendations from the study to plan improvement projects.
"That's the goal to keep traffic moving," Smith said. "Another one of the things that we're asking them to look at is the possibility of roundabouts in a couple of spots. That might improve the way the traffic flows and moves. So it will be safer."
Smith says any improvements they decide to make won't begin until 2015.
