Looking at the future of Jensen Woods campground

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - A church group is taking a look at the future of its campgrounds, including one in Brown County.

Wednesday, a consultant revealed fewer campers are coming to the United Methodist Church's Illinois campgrounds, including Jensen Woods near Timewell. Camp officials and members of the church held a town hall meeting to figure out what to do next.

Interested people gathered at Dixon Lodge to talk about some viable options for the future.

No decisions were made, but it was an opportunity to talk to the consulting firm about the challenges facing the campground, and to start brainstorming some possibilities to keep the campgrounds in use.
Church officials said Jensen Woods has a lot to offer.

"This campsite is more primitive in nature. It's the only campsite with treehouses, it's the only campsite with horses, and it provides a different type of camping experience for our young people and for adults," Director of Communications Ministry Paul Black said.

Officials say a decision on the campgrounds won't be made until next fall. Right now, the Methodist church only uses the campgrounds for about six or seven weeks in the summer.
