QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- The search for a new boys basketball coach at Quincy High School is underway and there's already plenty of interest in the position.

A 13-member search committee was formed last week to find a replacement for recently fired head coach Sean Taylor and Monday morning a handful of those committee members made their first public comments in the hiring process.

Sayeed Ali is the committee co-chair and says he's eager to get the ball rolling.

"The goal is to have the committee members get together this week, identify our goals and expectations (both) short term and long term, and what we're looking for in a coach to drive this program moving forward," Ali said.

"As soon as next week (we will) start looking through these candidates and resumes. There's not a specific date (to hire a new coach) but we're moving on it."

Since the job was posted last week the committee has already received eight applicants.

Superintendent Steve Cobb says they are in rush to hire a new coach and their goal is to find the right fit.
