QHS Search: Douglas wants excellence and results from next head coach

Posted:
QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- Next week the 13 individuals picked to help find a new boys basketball at Quincy High will meet for the first time.

It's a group made up of all men and most with ties to the glory days of Blue Devil hoops.

The list includes the greatest Blue Devil, Bruce Douglas, as well as other former stars Larry Moore, Kyle Cartmill, and John Ernst.

It's the 'who's who' of not only Quincy High basketball but other sports as well, like Kerry Anders and co-chair Sayeed Ali.

Douglas, the program's all-time leading scorer, explains what he expects in the next head coach.

"I think excellent is what creates the state tournament appearances and what creates the opportunity to win championships, and what creates a mindset and an expectation of winning conference (titles) every year," Douglas said.

"I'm more concerned with someone who says 'I want to have an excellent program' and knows that when we use that word we're going to have some results behind it."

Douglas went on to say the next head coach needs to convince the committee that he has a vision to attain success while developing young men both on and off the court.

Because Douglas and Cartmill don't live in Quincy the plan is to use Skype or video conferencing to allow both to be part of the interview process.
