John Wood basketball: Tisdell, Hoyt receive postseason honors

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- For only the second time in program history a John Wood men's basketball player has been named an NJCAA Division II First Team All-American.

Sophomore forward TJ Tisdell has garnered the honor after averaging 22 points and 12 rebounds a game this past season. Prior to the start of the Trail Blazers' first national tournament berth in almost two decades Tisdell was also named M-WAC and Region 24 Player of the Year.

Tisdell is being wooed by a number of NCAA Division I and Division II college basketball programs and is expected to make a decision on his future in the next few weeks.

That's not all coming from the Student Activity Center.

John Wood head coach Brad Hoyt has been named NJCAA Division II Co-Coach of the Year by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.

Hoyt, who was also given M-WAC and Region 24 Coach of the Year honors last month, led the Blazers to a 24-11 record as well as their first outright conference title, a Region 24 championship, and their first NJCAA Tournament appearance since 1996 during the 2013-14 campaign.
