Early Childhood Center gets creative, despite funding cuts

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - Schools are participating in Week of the Young Child nationwide, and local schools are no different.

Officials with The Early Childhood Center in Quincy say this week is a way to celebrate children and have some added fun along the way. This year's theme was Early Years are Learning Years.

Officials also say they kicked off the week in a way the kids and their families could enjoy.

"On Monday, we did do a parade around the entire perimeter of the building," Glenn Hogge, the enrollment coordinator said. "The city was actually able to block the streets off. We did the march, lots of families came out and watched this parade. And then the rest of the week has been different dress up days."

The dress up day themes included pajama day, hat day, favorite character day and Friday was mismatch day.

Hogge says staff and students always enjoy the festivities of this week.

"We've also had the opportunity to have a puppet show brought in for the children and all since the field trips with the school district have been cut down," Hogge said. "We've tried to incorporate more into the building and all."
