The National Fatherhood Initiative says 24 million children in America (that's one in three) live in homes where fathers are not involved.
According the the same group, growing up in a household without a father figure can increase the odds of delinquency, imprisonment, teen pregnancy, substance abuse and lower grades/dropping out of school.
Thursday, we dig deeper into the increased risks brought on by a fatherless life and we highlight local options to help families beat the odds.
Groups such as BBBS, Teen Reach and Redmon and Lee try to bridge the gap for children in need of support.
