Hannibal Clinic offers up free helmets

HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) - Hannibal Clinic Health Services invites area youth to bring their bicycles, roller blades, scooters, or skateboards to the annual Ride Cool helmet safety event. The event will be taking place Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hannibal Clinic.

During the event, organizers will give away more than 400 bicycle safety helmets and free T-shirts to kids.

Other highlights include helmet fitting, safety inspections, obstacle courses, demonstrations by the Cool Byke team, giveaways and an egg drop demonstration.

Hannibal Clinic Marketing Director Ginny Webb says each year, more than 500,000 people in the US are treated in emergency rooms for bicycle-related injuries and more than 700 people die as a result.
