Quincy Residents Head To Missouri For Easter Weekend Gas

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - Gas prices are an aspect of the road that affects many drivers and more specifically their wallets. Quincy comes in with prices nearly seven cents above the national average at $3.69 a gallon.

Across Illinois, prices are up to 20 cents more.

That's why many Quincy residents are choosing to go elsewhere for their gas. They are traveling across state lines to fill up in Missouri, where gas can be seen at about ten cents cheaper.

"Ten cents can make a difference when you're filling up completely," Quincy resident Angel Benavidez said.

Depending on the type of car, filling up can mean different things for different people.

"It's expensive. Because basically when you're driving a truck like this you know you're using more gas," Quincy resident Don Honter said.

While the prices are high, it was only about two weeks ago that Quincy was seeing prices of $3.79.

"They are starting to come down some now but they're still a lot higher than Missouri so it pays to make the trip across the bridge," Ken Franks said.

While the prices are slightly cheaper, one local resident admits that he's seen better days and if prices go down again he'll take advantage of the opportunity.

"Hopefully one day it can go back to three twenty nine and I'll buy gallons of gas to put them in my house just in case it goes back again," Quincy resident Evans Mutua said.
