Local landmark may become national park

PIKE COUNTY, Ill. (WGEM) - A local landmark is one step closer to becoming a national park.

The U.S. House unanimously passed a bill of support for the New Philadelphia site in Pike County, Ill.

New Philadelphia sits just north of Barry.  It was the first town founded and built by a freed slave, Frank McWorter, prior to the Civil War.

The bill now goes to the U.S. Department of Interior for review.
