Missouri State Treasurer visits local community college

HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) - Missouri's state treasurer is thanking community colleges for having a positive impact on the work force. Clint Zweifel spoke with community and education leaders on Thursday in Hannibal.

He praised them for their efforts to build a new Moberly Area Community College campus in Hannibal to better educate students who will be filling local jobs.

"Now in a new economy with new technology we've seen community colleges step up during the recession," Zweifel said. "And really find ways to connect our young people and our adults to retraining programs for health careers, for graphic design, for early childhood education you name it."

The MACC branch in Hannibal offers five different associate degrees, which also includes computer information technology.

"Community colleges are really a story of community support and that's exactly what happened here," Zweifel said. "It's giving more students access to higher education. It's doing it in an affordable way and it's doing it right in their backyard."

MACC has locations in Moberly, Edina, Kirksville, Mexico and Macon. The Hannibal facility was the latest addition to the group.
