QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -
Did you know someone needs a lifesaving blood transfusion every two seconds?
The Red Cross is hosting its ninth annual 12 Hours of Giving Summer Blood Drive, and it says it needs more volunteers to donate blood.
The drive is May 22, but organizers are asking people to make an appointment right now to roll up their sleeves, because donations tend to decline in the summer months. The Red Cross says donors fill up their schedules with summer activities and don't think about donating blood. But it says hospital patients can't take a summer break from needing it.
Make a difference and give blood with the American Red Cross and WGEM at the ninth annual 12 Hours of Giving Summer Blood Drive May 22 at the Quincy Blood Donation Center at 3000 North 23rd Street. Appointments can be made between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or click here to make an appointment to donate.
