Plan commission discusses medical marijuana in Quincy

Medical marijuana could soon be grown and sold in Quincy, and city leaders say they want to be ready with rules already in place.

The plan commission took up the topic for the first time at their meeting Tuesday night.

City planner Chuck Bevelheimer presented some suggestions for additions to the city code, to make way for medical marijuana growing and distribution centers.

Bevelheimer says the southwest part of town, which is primarily made up of industrial buildings, could be the best location for the growing center. That way it's in accordance with the new state law - that says those kinds of businesses can't be within a half mile of a school or a daycare facility.
