JWCC graduation ceremony doubles as presidential inauguration

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - Graduation ceremonies at John Wood Community College helped mark the beginning of a new era for the school Friday.

Besides honoring the hundreds of students in this year's graduating class, John Wood also formally installed its sixth president, Michael Elbe.

He's been with John Wood for 19 years in roles such as men's basketball coach and Vice-President of Student Services. Elbe hopes his new position will allow him to make a difference in the community.

"This area's been very good to me as a person, it's been very good to me as a professional, but I'm glad that I'm in a position that I can truly give something back to the community and give something back to the students and the people that live here," Elbe said.

Elbe officially took over as president on April 1st after John Letts retired. Friday's graduation was the 39th in the school's history.
