Quincy Park District to apply for state funding for skate park

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - The Quincy Park District is finally making strides to bring a skate park to the city.

Rome Frericks with the Quincy Park District says the district is applying for a $30,000 state grant to help pay for the skate park which will be part of the new Lincoln Park off Bonansinga Drive.
Frericks says thanks in part to the $30,000 raised by the non-profit group Adams County Skate Park Movement, a plan years in the making could finally be coming to fruition.

"What we're trying to do is get a grant for them which is a 50-50 cost sharing, with Adams County Skate providing the 50% and then the state providing the other half," Frericks said.

Frericks says the district should find out by January if it will get the funds. If so, construction could begin as early as next spring.
