Fire crews battle house fire into early hours Saturday morning

ADAMS COUNTY, Ill. (WGEM) - Early Saturday morning, firefighters continued to battle a house fire near the Adams/Hancock County line.

The fire at 1994 North 2700th Avenue started around 10:30 p.m. Friday night.  The house is located northeast of Big Neck.

The Bowen fire department was the first to respond, but then called for mutual aid from Loraine and Golden.

The house was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived on scene.

Bowen Fire Chief Brian Gaines said the biggest issue was keeping the water supply up in such a remote location.

"Whenever we go to a country fire we use all the water we have on our trucks and then we have to retrieve water or have someone else bring water," Gaines said. There's just not enough water. "

He's calling the house a complete loss.

The state fire marshal will be called in to determine how the fire started.

Everyone made it out safely, but two dogs died.
