QPS policy committee says 'no' to random student drug testing

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - It's been a hotly debated issue in the Quincy Public School District. Should students participating in sports or extracurricular activities be drug tested?
School officials say, maybe not.

The Quincy school board's policy committee met Tuesday morning to discuss the issue. Policy Committee Chair Sheldon Bailey says after looking at other schools that drug test students, the committee will make a recommendation to the board not to proceed with random drug testing.
Currently, the district only drug tests students who are believed to be under the influence.
The measure goes to the full board for approval later this month.
