Emergency management officials were asking for volunteers Friday to help fill sandbags in two Tri-States towns.

In Montrose, Iowa, volunteers were needed Friday at 1 p.m. to fill sandbags to put in various parts of town. Volunteers are asked to meet at the foot of Main Street at the entrance to Riverview Park. He says its important to wear sturdy shoes and gloves.

Niota Assistant Fire Chief Josh Dooley says Niota residents are entering day three of sandbagging, and they need more help.

"We have a couple low spots we're trying to fill out," Dooley said.

Dooley says volunteers don't need to bring anything. Shovels, gloves and bottled water will be provided, and portable toilets are also available for use.

Dooley says sandbagging will continue through Saturday at least, and they'll probably get a break Sunday.

If you would like to volunteer in Niota, you can just show up at the old Boddecker Boat Building and start pitching in.
