WIU Union construction nearly finished

MACOMB, Ill. (WGEM) - When Western Illinois University students head back to class next month, they'll notice some major changes to one of the campus' popular hang-outs.

Construction Project Coordinator, Carina Kapraun says renovation work on the University Union is nearly complete.

The $7 million project completely gutted and renovated the food court, including adding a bistro area to the La Moine room. The project also added a terrace to the north side as well as a handicap accessible ramp.

"The University Union is another space for the students to come to act as their second home," Kapraun said. "So it's very important to keep our facilities up to date for the students so they have the latest and greatest technology."

Kapraun says the project is expected to be completed by next Tuesday, with brand new furniture set to be installed before school starts.
