East Street construction in Macomb ahead of schedule
MACOMB, Ill. (WGEM) -
Driving on the streets of Macomb will soon get a lot smoother as one major project is ahead of schedule.
Mayor Mike Inman says completely reconstructing East Street in Macomb was big on the city's to-do list for safety reasons, as the street was extremely narrow and had limited drainage.
The $1.3 million project completely reconstructs traffic lanes from Wheeler Street to University Drive.
The project includes the addition of a multi-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists, an addition Inman says was a must.
"It's a heavily populated residential area that will be connecting with a park," Inman said. "We thought it would be a good opportunity to put a combined use path where pedestrians and bicyclists can enjoy the same safe way to get from point A to point B."
Inman says the project is expected to wrap up by Labor Day Weekend.
