City of Quincy looking at employee health care options

Quincy city leaders are looking at more options to cut healthcare coverage costs without cutting services.

Mayor Kyle Moore says the city is currently taking bids for a new provider, while at the same time taking bids for a member health clinic to serve city employees and their family members.

Moore says it's all part of a plan to keep costs down.

"The city's healthcare costs have risen over the last four years by 45 percent, and so when you're talking about a budget buster, it's healthcare costs," Moore said. "So that's one of the reasons we're reevaluating our group health insurance and seeing if we can add some type of component like a group health clinic."

A decision on whether to go ahead with the clinic will be made sometime this fall.
