Mental exam ordered for man accused of stabbing murder


A mental evaluation is ordered for the Quincy man accused of stabbing and murdering another man.

Alex Koehler, 27, is scheduled for a mental exam on July 28th, just a little more than a week before he heads back to court, according to court records.  Koehler is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on August 6th.

Koehler was arrested on July 9th in Mendon, Illinois after Quincy police say he slashed the throat of Robert Ownes. Owens was found injured in Koehler's home at 934 Payson in Quincy. He died two days later.

Koehler faces charges of first degree murder and could face 20 to 60 years in prison. He remains in the Adams County Jail on a million dollar bond.
