A Macomb police officer facing three felony charges resigned in person Wednesday morning, according to Chief Curt Barker.

William E. Kennedy was arrested Monday by Illinois State Police and is facing two counts of forgery and one count of state benefits fraud. Court records reveal Kennedy withdrew $5,000 from a nursing home resident's checking account back in March.

Kennedy is also accused of using under $300 from that same person's SNAP benefits.

"I was surprised," Barker said. "(Kennedy) didn't have any prior disciplinary issues."

Barker said Kennedy was released on bond Monday. Kennedy's first court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 11.
