The Hannibal School District received a pleasant surprise from a special donor.
The Arthaud Family Foundation donated close to $9,000 dollars to the Hannibal public school district to purchase five automated external defibrillators.
The portable devices send a shock to the heart to try and restore a normal rhythm.
District business manager Rich Stilley says there were already plans to purchase AED's for all of the buildings.
Now, that goal is complete.
"Heaven forbid we ever have to use them, but I think the amount of events that we have, the students that we have, having that security to know that if we needed them the opportunity to possibly save a life has been increased dramatically," Stilley said.
The AED's have been ordered and should arrive next month.
They'll be placed in Stowell Elementary School, Mark Twain Elementary School, the Early Childhood Center and at Norwoods Golf Course.
