The new policy went into effect on Monday and puts the college in line with the Illinois Smoke Free Campus Act.
According to Chief of Campus Police Bill LaTour, smoking is now only allowed in private vehicles. He says it's a $15 citation if someone is caught lighting up.
"We know that for the first few weeks, there will be people who simply won't know what's going on, so our plan as usual is to educate the community, let them know what the new law is and what they need to do to be in compliance," LaTour said.
LaTour says there was previously a vestibule out back where faculty, staff, and students could smoke. He says they've put out signs to let people know they can no longer smoke there.
