ADAMS COUNTY, Ill. (WGEM) -

Firefighters battled a corn field fire Monday night north of Quincy.

Tri-Township Fire responded to the fire off Knapheide Road just before 5:30 pm. Assistant Chief Darren Smith said a combine reportedly caught fire.

The fire, which started in a combine, quickly spread to more than 30 acres after heavy winds kicked-up. Fire officials want this to be a safety reminder for farmers.

"With all the dust, and as dry as it is, it can blow out their radiators," Lt. Richard Kestner with the Tri-Township Fire Department said. "Make sure the equipment is clean and in running order. Go get it serviced, and other than that, have a safe harvest."

Tri-township fire fighters say they expect more calls like this as fall harvest gets underway.
