All According to Plan: West Prairie spikes perseveres into sectional round

Just a mere three points away from being eliminated in the regional championship game against Payson, the West Prairie volleyball team had to dig deep and rally to win the final two sets and capturing the title.

"It says , that we can fight and we're ready and we can go all the way," said senior libero Hunter Griffith.

With the win, the Cyclones advance to the sectional round for the first time since the team placed third in the state in 2013 which has the Cyclones thinking big.

"Our theme this year has been this is our year," said senior blocker Julie Shoemaker.

"It's kind of been our goal the whole time, so it feels good to actually be winning regionals, going on to sectionals and state is in our horizon."

Standing in West Pairie's way of a sectional title game berth is a Lewistown team that the Cylones beat earlier in the year. However, at this point in the season this team understands no one is safe.

"We just can't look down on them because this is their last shot, too," said senior hitter Hannah Thompson.

"I think they're a really good team," said junior blocker Peyton Bowman. "We can't let that get in our heads and we have to play our best."

Regardless, the Cyclones know they have what it takes to advance but veteran head coach Teri Paul isn't resting on her laurels this late in the game. That is why she has recently added some new schemes to her team's arsenal ahead of the sectional semifinals.

"I like having a 'Plan B' if (Plan A) isn't working and we need to try something else. I'm big on that," said Paul.

No matter what plan they use these girls aren't planning on going home any time soon.

Tuesday's sectional semifinal match-up in Bushnell begins at 6:30pm.
