RUSHVILLE, Ill. (WGEM) -

A new attraction is coming to the small town of Rushville, Illinois to help the community beat the heat during summer.

The new Scripps Park Pool is a project three years in the making, and Rushville Resident Vera Street said she is eagerly awaiting its opening.

"Once it's open, I'll be here every day," she said.

Street said Rushville residents aren't the only ones who will enjoy the pool.

"All my grandkids live in Quincy or O'Fallon and they'd come and want to come to Granny's pool," she said. "They'll have a brand new one now."

Pool Committee Chairman Tim Higgins said the committee is taking steps right now to prepare the pool for its grand opening.

"We're training the lifeguards," he said. "We've got some new ones here and some returning ones. So we're just working on getting them all certified."

The lifeguards worked Monday on how to save someone from drowning and other training skills.

Some say the best part is an anonymous donation that will greatly help with a lot of the cost.

"Whoever it was, I thank them from the bottom of my heart," Street said. "Because this is a wonderful pool."

And officials said that wonderful pool will be a great opportunity for the small town of Rushville.

"Hopefully this will be very inviting to the residents, and the kids and adults as well will be able to come out and enjoy it," Higgins said.

Higgins said the committee has not set an opening date for the pool yet, but it will be inspected soon.
