QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -

What does it take to live for more than a century? Just ask James Haslem.

The WWII veteran celebrated his 102nd birthday surrounded by his family and friends at Curtis Creek in Quincy Monday.

After his service in the Navy, Haslem became an acrobatic pilot. He's a University of Illinois alumnus, with a degree in electrical engineering.

WGEM asked Haslem what he attributes his longevity to; he says it's all about maintaining a good attitude.

"Be positive, think what should I do, be pleasant, always be positive and be a little humorous too," Haslem said.

Haslem's family said they also wanted to take him for a spin in a car just as old as he is, so they planned a birthday drive in an antique car, a 1915 Metz Model 22.
