The release stated if someone approaches you wanting to sell guns, please contact local law enforcement. It stated possession of a stolen gun is a felony and could leave you in a position to prove you did not steal the firearm.

The sheriff's office said it is important for gun owners to copy down the serial number on their guns. They said this will be beneficial when you report a firearm as stolen so they can enter it into the system. They said this could protect you in case your stolen gun was used in a crime and recovered by law enforcement if it was reported as stolen and not in your possession.

The sheriff's office asked that if anyone has information on this crime to contact them at 660-727-2416.
