HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) -

A fugitive wanted since 2015 was arrested in Marion County on Friday, according to the sheriff's office.

In a news release Monday, the sheriffs office stated at 8:55 p.m., a search warrant was executed at 1308 Collier St. in Hannibal.

The release said information was received by the sheriff's office regarding the whereabouts of John Watkins Jr. at that location. It said they were able to confirm Watkins to be at that location and then obtained a search warrant for the property.

Watkins had been a fugitive since 2015 with two active felony arrest warrants from both Missouri and Illinois for financial exploitation of the elderly, according to the release. It said attempts had been made since 2015 to locate Watkins.

The release said Watkins was in custody at the Marion County Sheriff's Office awaiting extradition.
