QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -

Neighbors are looking forward to being rid of two Quincy homes that will soon be torn down.

Monday, Quincy's finance committee approved a $14,000 bid to demolish homes at 217 Locust and 1422 N. 9th St.

Officials say the bids are about what they'd expect to take down a home on the Fix or Flatten list, but cheaper than a bid done earlier this year. After the homes are leveled, the city plans to sell the lot to try and get some money back.

"Someone may want to buy that property and build a house on it," Planning and Development Director Chuck Bevelheimer said. "We've had about 15 or 16 projects built on Fix or Flatten properties over the course of 10 years. So you just don't know."

Officials say these homes were on last year's list and there are still a few more left to go before starting on this year's list.
