QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -

Some kids are required to have eye exams before they start the new school year.

Dr. Paul Tracy with Quincy Medical Group spoke with Natalie Will and Dylan Austin of WGEM News Today on Tuesday to discuss eye exams requirements.

He said that one in four kids have an undiagnosed vision problem and that's why vision exams are so important.

Illinois and Missouri require kids going into kindergarten to have a vision exam with an eye doctor. Iowa only requires schools to do "screenings."

Dr. Tracy said that while screenings do catch several eye problems, they do have their limitations.
