QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -

Around 12,000 pounds of food was donated to help feed hungry families throughout the Tri-states.

Hundreds gathered at the Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center on Saturday for the annual healthy foods distribution put on by the Madonna House.

Everything from watermelon to apples and potatoes were given out to those in need.

Coordinators said it's nice when they can give healthy food options.

"We would love to do it even more frequent just because it's healthy foods," said  Executive Director of the Madonna House, Joanne Dedert. "We want these individuals to live a healthier lifestyle and they want to. They just don't have the means to have that healthier food choice there."

The next healthy food distribution is the is first Saturday in October.
