Man accused of murder 'competent to proceed'

Brokes Brokes

A man accused of murdering a Hannibal woman and injuring her husband last year was deemed "legally competent to proceed" during a hearing Monday, according to the prosecuting attorney.

Records showed Timothy Brokes was in court for a plea/trial setting. He was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action relating to the 2016 shootings of Brittany Gauch and her husband, Aaron Gauch.

Authorities said Brittany was found dead Jan. 12, 2016, with multiple gunshot wounds. They said Aaron was found at a different location earlier with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said the search for Brokes led to an officer-involved shooting in Monroe City, which left a police officer with a gunshot wound to the leg. They said Brokes was also shot during the shooting.

Brokes was charged in connection with that incident as well.

Clayton said no trial date had been set as of Monday.

Clayton said Brokes is scheduled back in court on Set. 21. He said a motion to suppress evidence and statements filed by the defense is scheduled to be heard.
