BARRY, Ill. (WGEM) -

A heavily traveled highway is back open after several months of being closed down for a bridge replacement.

Pike County, Illinois officials said the bridge over Hadley Creek, just north of Barry, on highway 4 is back open. The project was delayed slightly due to the state shutdown at the beginning of July, but officials are glad to have the bridge back open for farmers and those who need it to travel to work.

"It's heavily used, a lot of people from Adams County use it," Chris Johnson with the Pike County highway Department said. "It's surprising that there's commuters that commute all the way to Springfield and back every day. So it's very important for this area."

Officials said the final cost of the project came in at just over $800,000.
