A rotting bridge in Marion County that closed back in February has now been replaced with a culvert.

The old bridge on County Road 411 in Marion County's wood pilings were giving out and rotting away. The concern was that the bridge would not be able to hold heavy farm machinery, farmers were primarily the ones using the bridge. The culvert was coated with a plastic coating so that it will last longer to serve the farming community.

"It was important for the bridge to be replaced," said Marion County Presiding Commissioner, Lyndon Bode. "We looked at if we should close the road or not, but talking to farmers and people that worked in this area we felt the need was there to keep the road open. Being able to replace it with a culvert was a great savings to the county. We are very happy to have the road open for the harvest season coming up."

The culvert cost the county around $10,000 and was paid for with the capital improvements sales tax.
