ADAMS COUNTY, Ill. (WGEM) -

Tri-State residents battling suicidal thoughts and depression have a new resource they can turn to for help.

The Adams County Suicide Prevention Coalition recently launched a website. It provides information to help families and individuals talk and understand what they can do if someone is considering suicide. The site also connect those in need with mental health resources in our area.

Advocates say some feel uncomfortable asking someone if they're considering suicide because they feel it will encourage them to do it.

"You're basically finding out what's going on in their life," Barbara Chapin, Development Director at Transitions of Western Illinois, said. "For most people who are struggling with the issue of suicide, it's very comforting if they find a person who's willing to dialogue with them about the struggle they're going through."

Chapin says the website will be updated frequently with new articles and information about suicide. You can also find numbers to suicide hotlines there as well.
