QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -

The Knights of Columbus BBQ kicks off Thursday evening in Quincy, however a special group was able to enjoy the midway rides and games before the gates opened.

The fourth annual "KARE Carnival Day" was held Thursday morning on the K of C grounds at 700 S. 36th St. People at Transitions were able to enjoy the festivities without the flashing lights, noise and crowds, which can be troublesome for people with disabilities.

"Many of these individuals wouldn't come out here due to lack of money or transportation," Transitions Developmental Disabilities Coordinator Michelle Obert said. "So having it during the daytime when it's not open to the public with just our program is a wonderful idea and an event they look forward to."

Gates open to the public Thursday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event continues daily through Sunday.
