Thurman Thurman

A former Montrose, Iowa, gas station worker is accused of stealing lottery tickets on multiple occasions in July, according to court documents.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office reported Stacey L. Thurman was arrested Wednesday on a lottery fraud charge. The circuit clerk's office said she was scheduled for a first court appearance Thursday.

According to the complaint filed Thursday, the owner of Garner One Stop in Montrose reported a theft to the sheriff's office on July 22. He told authorities that Thurman was caught on surveillance video taking lottery tickets from the dispenser without paying for them.

The owner reported Thurman could be seen folding up the tickets to conceal them. He told authorities she could be seen scratching off the QR codes, scanning the codes and cashing them in by removing money from the cash register, the complaint stated.

According to the owner, Thurman could be seen doing this during her shifts on 7/13, 7/16, 7/18, 7/20 and 7/21.
