QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -

If your child needs a physical before school starts, here's a free option.

SIU Center for Family Medicine is conducting school and sports physicals Saturday. They'll also give sports physicals Monday and Wednesday. It's all part of National Health Center Week, which is recognized as the highest level of cost effective care in the country.

Even so, some families still struggle affording these services.

"It's not uncommon for a sports physical to cost $50 to $100 and for a back to school physical to cost $100 to $150," Dr. Timothy Ott said. "That's not counting the dental exam which tomorrow morning you can also get for free."

Saturday's physicals are at the Adams County Health Department from 8 to 11 a.m.

Monday, August 14, sports physicals will be offered at the Parson's Youth Center at 812 Payson St. in Quincy from 5 to 7 p.m.

Wednesday, August 16, sports physicals will be offered at SIU Center for Family Medicine at 613 N 11th St. in Quincy from 4 to 8 p.m.

Other events for National Health Center Week include:

  • Tuesday August 15th, Free Family Swim Night 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Jackson-Lincoln Pool located at 701 N 8th St. Pizza, Soda and DJ included.
  • Thursday August 17, Story Time in SIU Lobby. Celebrate the "Books Build Connections" Project.  SIU staff will be reading to children in the lobby and handing out free books.
