LA GRANGE, Mo. (WGEM) -

Campgrounds were completely full this labor day weekend families trying to take advantage of the good weekend as summer comes to an end.

Fishing with his son and grandchildren is exactly what David Maas had in mind for his long weekend.

"Being with the grandkids is a big deal," Maas said. "These two are so important in our lives and I love being outside with them. The love every bit of it."

Maas like many other families chose to go go camping at Wakonda State Park in LaGrange, Missouri. For some it was fishing, but for others it's great way to get together with family and friends.

"We're enjoying the labor day weekend here," camper Dixie Griggs said. "It's beautiful weather. Our family is all getting together later for a barbeque. We are all going to play some games.

Park employees said the nice weather throughout most of the summer has really helped them out. Campers hoped to take advantage of that weather before the cold temperatures hit.

"We love it before the cold weather," Griggs said. "We even like to camp in October when it's cool, but this is the last long weekend so we have a good time."

Park employees said the camp was full this weekend. Campers said being out here with family makes camping on long holiday weekends worth the business of everyday life.

"It's a great way to bond," Griggs added. "Everybody's so busy now a days that it's hard to get everybody together, but this weekend we all try to stay together anyways."

"We all like the outdoors. We all love to camp," Maas said. "We all love to fish. We all just love being outside. We just enjoy being together and being out here where the weather is perfect and away from everything else back there."

Wakonda Park is open year round, but the beach area will be closed after Labor Day. Campground reservations end October 31st.
