FORT MADISON, Ia. (WGEM) -

The competition at the Tri-State Rodeo focused on the kids Monday morning.

At the Lil' Spurs Rodeo, children up to age 14 participated in MuttonBustin', Calf Riding, Goat Tail Tie, and Stick Horse Barrel events.

Families said they come to the rodeo every year and it was really fun to see their kids compete and meet new people.

"It's really fun especially when there is different ideas on how to do it and you can see how people do it differently and you learn from it," Anna Schroeder from Fort Madison said.

"I rode a horsey and I was the fastest," Summer Cox said after taking home a silver medal.

The professional competition begins Thursday night and runs through Saturday.

Musical guest Cody Johnson will perform Thursday, The rock band Smash Mouth on Friday, and country music singer Jon Pardi on Saturday.
