TAYLOR, Mo. (WGEM) -

Roads across the Tri-States were full of drivers heading home on Monday. Driver Scott Tinti was on the way to Connecticut, and he said the road conditions were favorable.

"It's worked out nice." Tinti said. "There's been no traffic stoppages. And so it's been a pleasure for us to go by and see the land. Since we're from Connecticut the idea is to see all the different types of crops that are grown."

TripAdvisor statistics showed that 63% of holiday travelers drove this past weekend.

Tinti added that in addition to light traffic, the gas prices in the Tri-States had been much cheaper than his home state.

"Gas prices seem to have been stable around here." Tinti said. "Which seems to be very nice, around two dollars and forty five cents or so."

Sgt. Eric Brown of the Missouri State Highway Patrol also advised drivers on their way home after the holiday weekend to be extra cautious, and not do things like use cellphones while driving.

"When we talk about cell phone use, we ask that you just put it down." Brown said. "Don't use it. If you need to send a text or make a phone call, please stop on the side of a road. Go someplace safe to do that. Avoid using things like Instagram or Facebook when you're driving as well."

Drivers like Amanda Chidister, who was on her way back home to the Memphis area, said with her children in the car with her, that's a no-brainer.

"I have four kids in the car with me." Chidister. "So we try to be as safe as possible of course. We try to avoid anything with the phone if we can."
