KEOKUK, Ia. (WGEM) -

There's help available. That was the message domestic violence victims in Southeast Iowa got on Tuesday.

About 20 people visited Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Keokuk for a program called 'Stop Domestic Violence.'

People learned what services are available in the area for victims.

Lee County's intervention program coordinator says many people don't know what's available and this is an important discussion for the community.

"It's important," Brad Koenig, Client Advocacy Services Coordinator said. "There are a lot of different nuances that get involved when people split up. Feelings don't go away, right away and people don't understand that. "You know when there is a split up, who will feed the kids and things like that. Keeping the person safe. I mean, I could stand here for 30 minutes and try to explain all the little nuances that people don't know unless they are in this line of work."
