Chicago man arrested for forcing Lyft driver to drive to Macomb

MACOMB, Ill. (WGEM) -

The Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety reported a man was arrested on campus Sunday for allegedly making a Lyft driver drive him from Chicago to Macomb.

In a report released Wednesday morning, OPS stated Torey Evans, 19, of Chicago, was arrested in Bayliss Hall on charges of kidnapping, intimidation and unlawful restraint.

The report stated Evans was not a WIU student.

OPS Director Scott Harris referred all questions about the arrest to WIU University Relations.

WIU spokesperson Darcie Shinberger said she could not comment on specifics of the situation.

"It's still under investigation," Shinberger said.

Officials with the McDonough County Circuit Clerk's said charges had not been filed as of Wednesday morning.

Evans was still being held in the McDonough County Jail as of Wednesday morning.
