The American Red Cross said volunteers are needed as the organization prepares to respond to possibly a second devastating hurricane in less than a month.

Local Red Cross Volunteer Paul Soebbing joined Natalie Will and Dylan Austin on WGEM News Today on Thursday to discuss the relief efforts underway following Hurricane Harvey in Texas. And, the Red Cross has already started to prepare for a potential response to Hurricane Irma which could impact Florida and other states this weekend.

Soebbing said that witnessing the tragedy firsthand is even more profound than watching the images on television.

"Well the devastation is just great," he said "When you see it on TV, you're just seeing a picture, but when you're there its 360."

He said volunteers are needed to do many things in relief zones, including work at emergency shelters. Volunteers are trained before they are sent into disaster areas.

For more information on how to volunteer contact the local Red Cross chapter.
