Wanted Quincy man arrested after short pursuit

A Quincy man wanted on multiple Adams County and City of Quincy warrants was arrested Wednesday after running from officers, police reported.

In a news release, the Quincy Police Department reported officers saw Leshawn Stanbridge, 32, in a vehicle heading south on Gardner Expressway at 12:44 p.m. It stated officers recognized Stanbridge in the front, passenger seat.

The release stated officers tried to pull the vehicle over but were initially unsuccessful. It stated officers followed the vehicle and saw Stanbridge attempt to take control of the vehicle and drive from the passenger seat.

The vehicle did stop at 6th and Payson before Stanbridge got out and ran away, the release stated. During the chase, QPD reported Stanbridge was throwing items as he was running. 

QPD stated Stanbridge was caught and taken into custody after a short foot chase.

Authorities said officers recovered a baggie with over 5 grams of a white powder that tested positive for meth.

QPD reported Stanbridge was arrested for attempted vehicular hijacking, fleeing to elude police, resisting a peace officer, no valid driver's license and possession of meth (5-15 grams). Authorities said he also had outstanding warrants for aggravated battery, criminal trespass, battery and possession of cannabis.
