The ground breaking to replace a historic bridge that connects Missouri and Illinois at Louisiana, MO was planned for Friday. MoDOT officials said workers are still needed for the project.

Marisa Ellison, the Communications Manager for MoDOT, said their recent job fair for the project was phenomenal.

However, now Ellison said there are still positions available for the two-year project that you can apply for right now.

"This is a union project so the primary source of employment will be through the union," stated Ellison. "They do and are accepting apprenticeships as well."

Ellison said this is the largest project for MoDOT's Northeast district in several years which means it will take all different kinds of workers to complete the new bridge.

Ellison added work on the project officially begins Monday as they set up the work zones.

She said if you don't get one of the currently available jobs, there will be more openings later.

"There will be jobs available throughout the project. They will be holding two additional job fairs. There will be additional opportunities over the next year and a half to two years."

She said the first of those job fairs will be held sometime next spring.
